Trade Union Safety Training

Trade Union Safety Training TUC Health and Safety Stage 1 and Next Steps for Safety Reps are the standard accredited training and all Safety Reps should undertake these. Click here for upcoming training.

You should get your name down for the next Stage 1 course when you are appointed as a Safety Representative.

It is recommended that you should undertake Next Steps after about one year but this is not prescriptive and you can undertake it earlier or later according to your needs.

Safety Representatives have a right to attend these courses that is covered by the law and by also the City of Edinburgh Council Trade Union agreement.

The Occupational Diploma is of use to Safety Representatives who undertake consultation with management at a higher level than workplace. This course is also covered by case law that protects the right to take it where that would be reasonable.

The TUC also supply short courses. Currently ones on Accident Investigation, Risk Assessment and Control of Substances Harmful to Health are among the ones that they run.

Please ensure that you apply for the training that you require and that you report any refusals of time to attend to the Branch Health and Safety Officer c/o the Branch Office.

Course dates are shown for courses at both Stevenson College and Falkirk CVS. Students are expected to apply for courses for the course that would place least strain on UNISON funds.
