British Association of Occupational Therapists

OTs can either join UNISON directly, or join the British Association of Occupational Therapists which provides membership of the professional body, the College of Occupational Therapists, as well as UNISON membership.

Registration

All Occupational Therapists have to be registered, previously with the CPSM but as of October 2003 with the Health Professions Council at £60pa. Agreement has been reached that Occupational Therapists will not have to re-register with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Fees tax deductable

Occupational Therapists should note that both their BAOT membership fees and their HPC registration fees are tax deductable, and information about how to notify the Inland Revenue is published periodically in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy.
