Full time officer Adam Ingram (right) celebrates a landmark regrading for Lothian Regional Council solicitors in the early 80's. Adam rose to great heights. He became an MP, was Neil Kinnock's aide and is now Security Minister at the Northern Ireland Office.

1989 and Lothian and Edinburgh shut down as 8,000 staff strike against attempts to undermine national bargaining. With Building Control workers out, even the Festival was under threat.
We won, and got an 8% pay rise out of it!. Second from the left is current branch secretary Morag Stevenson. It was glorious weather throughout the strike and you could tell the strikers by the suntans.

Edward Ramsdale
International: The late Edward Ramsdale, of the South African Congress of Trade Unions (SACTU). Eddie was a guest of Edinburgh District NALGO on many occasions during the 70's and 80's.
