Barbara, Agnes, All the Johns! and everyone at Unison (Edinburgh),a big thank
you for all your determination and hard work throughout the campaign. I wish them
the very best. Good luck to all Nursery Nurses going back to work on Monday. 9/5/04 From
Anne Milligan Unison Edinburgh Hi all, May I say how thankful we
all are for the tremendous support we are getting from fellow trade unions & members
across the board. There is a swell of support throughout Unison members calling
for a day of action in support of nursery nurses strike & to highlight the plight
of all low- paid public sector employees, the public also need to be made aware
of the social work situation too. Please if you haven't already, contact your branch
& add your support for a national day of action. Collectively we can show our
politicians the extent of unrest within their workforces & raise public awareness
- just in time for EU Elections. Best wishes. Anne. 8/5/04 From
Shirley Gibb EIS Congratulations to all of you on a great fight. It
can't be easy being out for this long, but keep it up - an awful lot of people
respect what you're doing and wish you well. Shirley Gibb. (Special Needs Teacher)

HI there everyone I cant believe the position we are now in.we cannot accept this
'final offer'from edinburgh. After 10 weeks on strike this surely cannot be how
its going to end.I cannot face going back to work under the councils offer, new
job description and title of 'early years worker'.if we have already rejected
the offer then why are we going to accept it now. (maybe because we are all skint
and have been on strike for the last 10 weeks)I believe thats why the council
will not up the offer as they think can starve us back to work.Well lets show
them we are not going to accept this(have you seen the endless job description)!!We
must stay strong and stay out, there is still so much support out there for us
and ongoing contributions to the hardship funds.c'mon the answer is NO NO NO!smaller
councils are getting more than us and we are the capital city. From
jane Greene unison west dumbartonshire we are comming to the
end of a tenth week on strike here in west dumbartonshire and still staying strong
.Well done to all my collegues who are still united in the fight to get a just
pay settlement it is hard going but the support is still there from the parents
,members of the public and other union members despite the adverse publicity in
some national newspapers I am proud to stand alongside my fellow NURSERY NURSES
in the fight. 5/5/04 From Kevin Lindsay ASLEF Edinburgh
No2 Keep fighting you know your worth it and Scotland knows your worth
it. I was at the STUC annual congress last week and left when Jack McConnel spoke
to stand outside with the Nursery Nurses. The songs were great but the cause is
greater. Keep the fight going From Audrey Lamb Union edinburgh
was feeling very down hearted when on the news tonight there was another
two councils have settled but after going into yahoo nurserynurses solidarity
group it really opened my eyes made me feel good and know that the others from
diffrent regions still going through what we going through. Was suprised to hear
that diffrent regions calling us diffrent names thought we were all still nursery
nurses but that seems to be changing, glasgow child support workers and edinburgh
early year workers didnt know wed changed our working names intresting. Keep united
girls it is getting harder as more and more settle but try and keep united and
remember all the friends weve made from this. Just hope education department see
sense and we are all soon able to go back to work to the job we love doing and
give the kids there nursery education they rightly deserve Updates at

City of Edinburgh I am a nursery nurse on strike and have been
since the start. I know all nursery nurses are finding this hard but we have to
stay strong for each other and get a fair deal for the future. I have collected
£100 this week from picketing in edinburgh so we may not always see the support
but it is there. Updates at 29/4/04 From Carole Ross
dundee good luck to you all stay strong, i know its hard but im back
on friday and im going to be strong and proud as i am a nursery nurse who was
a picket and not a scab!!!!!! Updates at 28/4/04 From

The songs were great but the cause is greater. Keep the fight going From
FO's I hope you get what you want and I hope the rest of the UK take
note. Good Luck 31/3/04 From Arlene Horribine Unison
It is really a great job that the nursery nurses do, can we just
get it settled as my daughter starts school this year and is missing the nursery
really badly. 29/3/04 From Tracey Unison Midlothian
Think CoSLA got the message today loud and clear!!!! Hope to see you
all at parliament on Thursday for Elaine Smith's members debate. Starts at five.
The more the merrier. From Alistair Cant Parent and TGWU 7/148
My son goes to Grassmarket Nursery and I want to see Nursery Nurses
get a fair deal for all of Scotland. I totally support the message of support
from L Hodgson. I plan to take my son and go as a parent to the Demo on Monday
29 March at 12.00 at Atholl Crescent to march to Rosebery House (Haymarket). I
would urge other parents and children to come too. We parents have perhaps been
too silent in our support and it would be good to show more support this coming
Monday. 15 March 2004 From L Hodgson My
son is currently in his pre-school year at Stockbridge Nursery in Edinburgh. We
totally support the nursery nurses and the strike. We know the strike is a last
resort and the nursery nurses would far rather be working than picketing. We would
really like to do something positive to help bring about a resolution to the strike.
Is their an action group for parents that we can join? Perhaps if all the nursery
children in Edinburgh turned up at the Council Chambers for the day, councillors
would feel more inclined to settle this matter? 11 March 2004 From
Douglas Campbell PCS Saughton, Edinburgh Our branch AGM on Friday
5th agreed unanimously to send a message of support and solidarity to the striking
nursery nurses who look after so many of our own children in Carrick Knowe and
Balgreen. From Jillian Peacock - Parent I support you
100% in you're action even though my two children are missing there nursery education.
I do not blame nursery nurses for this action, i blame cosla and the councils
for not recognising the great work nursery nurses do. Let the members of these
bodies work in our nurseries for one week then tell me what salary they deserve!
I lend my support to you all and will continue to petition, protest and march with
you all, you are not alone and you more than deserve a decent non degrading salary.stand
together stay srong we will win. We have to for the sake of our childrens education.
From Anne Morris Unison Edinburgh I support the Nursery
Nurses 100 %. This is 'last resort' action. I know first hand what a fantastic
job they do under very difficult circumstances. What they want is fair recognition
of what they do in the form of a decent wage. Their job description has changed
considerably over the years - their salary has not! If a successful end to this
is not found and Nursery Nurses are forced back to work because they cannot afford
financially to support strike action - there will be a mass exodus of very well
trained, caring professional nursery nurses who will probably end up working in
a less rewarding but better paid job. Where does that leave nursery education?
Not in anyone's best interests! 10 March 2004 From James
Milligan My wife is a nursery nurse in an edinburgh school nursery,i
support her and her colleagues 100%.i think the decision they have taken to strike
was the right one especially as they have not had a job review in the last 16
years, but have had more added on to their job with no thanks from the government
bodies {i.e. a wage increase}. how can cosla justify asking for a 22 million pay
rise for part-time pen pushers but not for nursery nurses across the board who
do a harder and more valued job. n.n,s have children too who are missing out on
care & education it's not as if they dont understand what all children are missing
out on. it's also a hardship doing without a wage when they are so low paid to
begin with, but you have to stick to your fight and make the governing bodies
see that your actions & claim for a pay rise is justified good luck to you all
stay united . From Jane Donaldson Unison Edinburgh MSP's
help us out here! Get Cosla round the table and get us our National agreement,
that we deserve!! 8 March 2004 From Sally Clarke UNISON
Edinburgh I'm a nursery nurse picketing twice a day at my nursery with
my colleagues. We are receiving lots of support from parents and from the local
community. Today a man stopped on his way to work, parked his car and came over
to our picket line to shake our hands and gave us words of support - what a morale
booster!!! 3 March 2004 From Millicent and
Tom Hendry Melbourne Australia Our best wishes to all nursery nurses.
Your support is world wide.!!! from Millicent and Tom. Melbourne OZ---... From
Emma Kelly Unison Edinburgh As an affected nursery nurse. I just want
to wish all my collegues the best for this stirke. This is our one chance to get
this resolved so lets fight this all the way and remember, WE ARE RIGHT!!! Joan
Neilson Unison North Lanarkshire Hang in there girls, if we all stick
together we will win. Also I'm looking for a contact in your area so that we can
keep in touch about further developments. Can you tell me if anyone has thought
to protest outside the COSLA offices? There is a branch in Glasgow and Edinburgh,
maybe we should target them on the same day. Keep smiling!!!!!!! 2
Mar 2004 From Joe Hartney AMICUS Financial Keep the
pressure on. The Herald's editorial today was broadly in suport of the nursery
nurses. I have written to COSLA and copied in my Councillor and MSP, making it
clear that as an affected parent I give full support to the nursery nurses. My
local nursery is Gylemuir in Edinburgh. 1 Mar 2004 From
Robert Mathie PCS Edinburgh Branch Its a national scandal that
its come to this. Stand firm and united, solidarity and the public support will
bring victory. 29 Feb 2004 From Linda Rendall
Hertfordshire Unison Borehamwood Herts As a nursery nurse working
in Hertfordshire I wish you success in your strike efforts. If Scottish local
authorities get away with this then London could be next. Good luck. |
