Home Care Service
UNISON represents over 1,000 Home Care staff in Edinburgh.
The union acknowledges the valued work that these staff
do and wants to dispel the myth of this being just a
'domestic' service.
The service includes a wide range of supports and services
including Hospital Discharge and Rapid Response teams.
Our members support clients with a wide range of needs
at every age. The service ranges from child escorts
to preventing hospital admission and promoting independence
that allows people to remain at home longer.
For the last two years the Branch has been campaigning
against cuts and privatisation in home care with a series
of well attended public meetings.
In July 2010 it published "Cash
or Care? The Human cost of cuts and privatisation"
giving real life examples of the effects on service
users of privatised services.
