LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND NATIONAL
DELEGATE CONFERENCE 2009
The City of Edinburgh Branch
set UNISON's national policy on two major
issues, Pensions and The Environment, as
well as putting up speakers on a range of
other issues and having one of the lead speakers
at the Social Work fringe meeting.
The Conference took place in
Brighton this year from Sunday 14th to Friday

Pensions: Edinburgh joined
with Aberdeenshire and Newcastle to set out
a range of measures to defend our members
pensions fom mainly Tory attacks.
Agnes Petkevicius spoke on the
motion which was initiated by John ross and
Irene Stout at the AGM.

Environment: The Branch
joined with the National executive in setting
national policy on the environment caloling
for UNISON to raise its game to ensure climate
change policy is put into action and will
work with employers to achieve a low carbon
economy.
Kevin Duguid spoke on the motion
which was initiated by Matthew Crighton and
Paul Clarke brought at the AGM.

Domestic Abuse: Elaine
Wishart spoke to our amendment which was defeated
but contributed to a good debate. Elaine initiated
the amendement at the Branch Committee.

Marlyn Tweedie spoke in favour
of two motions which involved migrant
workers and home care. The branch has
a policy on both issues.
Stewards Training: Gem
Hogan was to speak on stewards training but
unfortunately it was not heard. Click

Underfunding of Childrens
Services: The Branch motion initiated
at the AGM by John Stevenson and John Ross
was not heard but many of the issues in it
were composited at Local Government Conference.
